Hello Everyone,

All right, let’s get to the point: 2019 is our year to have fun! This quarter, I am going to share one simple, proven tactic from one of this quarter’s interviewees to make your weekend more fun, as well as share a great story of someone who didn’t let an opportunity for fun slip by.

So, first the tactic: Simply reframe your weekend as a “vacation.” Yes, absurdly simple. Most of the best interventions are. This simple reframe did wonders for those in Cassie’s study. To learn how check out our interview.

Next, check out the story of William Novak. William turned a simple mistake into a catalyst for fun. Charlie Hoehn told us, “It’s a choice to approach any given moment playfully — with a joyful spirit.” William Novak showed us the magic that can happen when you do.

Ain’t going to lie, creating a book about fun has been a such a great experience so far. I cannot wait to launch it out into the world and have you read it. One of the best parts of the journey is getting to interact and collaborate with so many of you amazing people! This quarter’s life experience took me to Tennessee, where I got to spend a weekend with Tim Grahl and some other amazing authors. Learned so much from this group. As Cassie professes in our interview, time with friends (new and old) almost always leads to fun.

In the spirit of friendship, this quarter’s contribution was in support of the son of an old college friend looking to make an impact by completing an Eagle Scout Service Project. For the book, I have been researching how fun can be coupled with philanthropy, and the Eagle Scout Service Project is a great example of that.

Congratulations to Mike F. from San Diego, CA. He and his friend were the lucky recipients of last quarter’s book giveaway. That was a lot of fun to put together and a great way to support other authors, so look for another giveaway from me in the future.

I hope you give the “vacation” mindset tactic a try. If you do, please email me back and let me know if it had an effect. Personally, I have had a lot of success with reframing. I hope you find this simple tactic just as helpful.

Yours in fun,
Mike Rucker, Ph.D.
