Hello Everyone,

I hope you and yours are closing out 2018 having fun with your friends and family. I would like to start the New Year off doing a little something to give back. I came up with the idea to do a giveaway that includes three of my favorite books from prior interviewees. Anyone that takes the time to read these books will set himself or herself up with enough knowledge to improve their outlook for fun in 2019.

This “fun pack” of books includes Play It Away by Charlie Hoehn, 168 Hours by Laura Vanderkam and If You’re So Smart, Why Aren’t You Happy? by Raj Raghunathan. The fortunate winner of the giveaway will get the entire book set, along with another book set to send to a worthy friend. If you would like to participate, you can do so by clicking here. I will announce the winner on Jan. 25th.

Noah Kagan is the founder of AppSumo, Sumo.com, and KingSumo, multi-million dollar web services that help entrepreneurs grow their businesses. Noah is known for growth hacking, building amazing things and eating tacos. Noah Kagan and I talked about work and fun and the write-up can be found here.

Jonah Babins is a professional magician who runs the Toronto Magic Company and is famous for the pure state of wonder and surprise he brings to his audiences. This quarter Jonah and I talked about creating magic and architecting wonder. You can find the write-up of me and Jonah Babins’ conversation here.

Life Experience: This quarter I was part of a band of innovators and entrepreneurs that participated in the Sumo 50, a half-century charity bike ride that raised funds to provide laptops to schoolchildren in Austin, Texas. During one of the participant events surrounding the ride, I got an up-close magic show from this quarter’s interviewee Jonah Babins. It’s easy to see (from the picture below) how engrossed I was in the wonder and fun Jonah created for us that night.

Contribution: My biggest contribution this quarter was the Sumo 50. Noah Kagan put on an amazing event and helped a lot of children in the process. I also donated to Michael Gervais’ Project Reconnect, Breast Cancer Prevention Partners, Augie’s Quest as well as provided some support to those affected by the horrendous Camp Fire in California.

For those of you interested in the fun giveaway, I wish you good luck (again, enter here if interested). To all, I wish you all the fun and joy you can handle in 2019!

If there is ever anything I can do to help you attract more fun in your life, please feel free to reach out.

Yours in fun,
Mike Rucker, Ph.D.
