Hi Everyone,

As I continue to explore the topic of fun, my wife and I have been working with one of this quarter’s interviewees, Erik Paquet, on “travel hacking” to create more opportunities for life experience. If you are interested in this topic, I believe you’ll find my interview with Erik an interesting read. I flew to Punta Cana for free this quarter (see below), and next quarter we are flying the whole family to Cancun.

This quarter, I also finally caught up with Charlie Hoehn. In our interview, we discuss how fun and play can be used to improve your well-being — another great read for anyone trying to reclaim some of their playful spirit. I hope the information in these interviews helps you increase the amount of fun you will have in the coming year.

Business, Innovation and Entrepreneurship: Erik Paquet is the co-founder of Abroaders, a company whose mission it is to democratize life experience through travel hacking. In this quarter’s interview with Erik Paquet, we discuss the ins and outs of travel hacking.

Health and Wellness: Charlie Hoehn is the author of the bestselling book Play It Away: A Workaholic’s Cure for AnxietyIn this quarter’s interview with Charlie Hoehn, we discuss the power of play and fun, as well as the therapeutic benefits of having a playful spirit.

Life Experience: This quarter, I joined some old hometown friends in Punta Cana to attend My Morning Jacket’s One Big Holiday music festival. It was so much fun, words do not do it justice. If you are a music lover like me, this amazing festival absolutely needs to be on your bucket list.

Contribution: I am writing this quarter’s newsletter from sunny San Diego where I just finished wrapping up the 2018 IHRSA Convention. Anyone associated with IHRSA knows about Augie’s Quest and their worthy pursuit to end ALS. I was grateful to again support Augie’s efforts this year while at IHRSA. I also donated to Camp Mak-A-Dream this quarter. Camp Mak-A-Dream provides amazing life experiences for children affected by cancer.

In 2018, I continue to work on a book about the power of fun. I hope to wrap up the book and have it available before the end of next year. In the meantime, if there are any areas regarding fun that you would like me to cover on this website, please let me know.

I hope 2018 is proving to be a prosperous and fun year for you and your loved ones! As always, if there is anything I can do to help, please let me know.

Yours in fun,
Mike Rucker, Ph.D.
